Film Wig Wraps

The goal is shaping the hair as close to the head as possible in a reasonable amount of time.

A few years ago, I got a request from a session stylist to create a faster, flatter wrap for an artist who was unhappy with how uncomfortable the common methods were, and how long the process was to continue doing every day. I assessed what was necessary and made adjustments to streamline the process and create a gentler base to anchor the wig to.

Like most of wig making, you’ll find yourself making adaptations to what you know for each individual situation, creating something that can be duplicated before each application.

You may never have the desire to work in Entertainment or Film. Understanding the order of operations, though, carries much further than either.

Some of my everyday wear guests live in the world of what I call the three minute rule. Their morning should require no more than three minutes to step into their wig and get on with their day.

Then there are clients who prefer having their wigs sewn onto braids, or those wearing mesh integration beaded foundation anchors. Different circumstances entirely, but understanding the architecture of the build becomes just as important.

What you’re working over informs the architecture of the project, how you approach it, and eventually how you choose your textile and lace.

And, of course, begins to show what sets traditional and modern wig making apart from every other style of wig making…
